The most beautiful and the biggest lake in Kyrgyzstan is Issyk-Kul lake which is located at north-eastern part of the republic between Northern Tien-Shan ridge in the height of 1609m above sea level and stretching from west to east.
“Aquamarine in silver rim of mountains” – this is how the traveler Semenov-Tien –Shanskiy has called the lake. Dark-blue surface of the Issyk-Kul Lake with its bright color prevails other lakes. The traveler N.A. Severcev had written: “Blue sky, so blue Issyk-Kul, between them white battlement, on the foreground is a naked, red-yellow coast, from which eyes hardly comes off: so majestic flavor, so graceful and easy ridges are…”
Issyk-Kul is translated as “Hot Lake” and the name proves itself by that it never gets frozen in all seasons of the year. By transparency of water the Lake Issyk-Kul takes the second place in the world after Lake Baikal. It is visible in the depth of 20 m, which makes it easy to see drowned old cities under water, which are located in many parts of coastal zones, and also it is easy to observe the flock of fish, that are trying to get bait off the hook. The sun’s rays penetrate through the thickness of clear water to the depth of 70 meters.
In autumn, spring and winter periods the object of attraction for tourists are mountains, which surround lake from each side and covered with steppe, forest, and alpine landscape. Especially a big expanse for the amateurs of skiing sport: there is not any strong frost, greet fully shines the sun, good glide skiing. The mountain foothills and canyons of Issyk – Kul region during the whole year are good for walking by foot and for mountain tourism, for skiing tourism and other healing types of tourism.
For the ones who are resting at the coast of the Issyk-Kul, there are many opportunities for mixing the rest with water nearby the wonderful sandy beaches with short time walks to amazing mountainous zones or excursion trips to the unique places.
