Day
Arrive in

We will start in the earliest heritage sites of the city and wind our way through Cork's and Ireland's rich and complex history, stopping along the way to see the famous sites of the city.

Cork's origins as a city go way back to the pre-historic period. In 606AD St. Finbarr founded his monastic settlement on the banks of the south channel of the River Lee. 820AD saw the first Viking raids on the city and in the 12th century a series of Norman conquests claimed the city as a major centre for the colonisation of Munster. From this period Ireland and Britain were locked in conflict.

From the famous Battle of Kinsale (1601) to the life of Irish revolutionary hero General Michael Collins, Cork City's fascinating and often rocky history is filled with uniquely interesting events.

We will visit the Butter Market, the English Market. There is much to see and do at a variety of attractions, all to explore the deep history of the city and county.
