Pest's Jewish area has a rich and long history. The special synagogues that you will visit on this tour will show you some of the history of this quarter. You will see the world's second largest Jewish temple The Dohanyi Great Synagogue.
On this tour you will journey trough history of the Jewry of this area, the Holocaust in Hungary and the contemporary life of the 90,000 Jewish population in Hungary.
We will begin at the Chain bridge across the Danube river and you will have an introduction into the areas history.
We will look at The Shoes holocaust monument which will show you a history of the private life of the local Jews. Then travel by car to the Wallenburg statue who was a Swedish diplomat who saved 10000 lives from the area which was once an international ghetto and you will hear the story of this remarkable Swedish diplomat.
Continue to the Andrassy Avenue where we see the sights of this Jewish disctrict:
We will visit the ol statu-quo synagogue, the courtyards and shops on Kiraly road which will show the former Jewish life in Budapest. Visit the Ghetto Wall, travel through fasinating courtyards and see the courtyards of the Main Orthodox Synagogue the 2nd largest synagogue in the world and you can have a guided tour of the interior. See the Tree of life at the Memorial Garden which remembers the 600,000 victims. Visit the JCC building for the Jewish Museum.
We can then travel to the Holocaust Museum on Pava street.
