Kernavė is a small city in southeastern Lithuania, with only about 300 inhabitants. Nevertheless, it has a very rich history, as it was the first capital of Lithuania
It is believed that the first inhabitants settled in Kernavė territory in 9-8th millennium BC, but only in the first centuries AD did they begin to form bigger settlements across the Pajauta valley (Kernavė territory). These settlements were protected by five fortified mounds.
