Kronborg, Helsingør, Denmark
From Copenhagen, we drive along the Danish Riviera to Elsinore to visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kronborg Castle, made famous by Shakespeare´s Hamlet. After an interior sightseeing in Kronborg, there is a break for lunch in the nearby former shipyard or a stroll in the picturesque medieval city, Elsinore located at the narrowest point of the sound between Denmark and Sweden. We pass the summer castle of the royal family, Fredensborg, on our way to the renaissance castle Frederiksborg. Frederiksborg Castle is beautifully located on small islands in the middle of the town Hilleroed and surrounded by a big baroque garden. Today it is a national historic museum. One of the most spectacular sights on the interior visit is the castle church, where the anointment of the absolute monarchs took place for nearly two hundred years. After the visit in Frederiksborg Castle, we return to Copenhagen.
