We drive 8 km along the green cycle path on an old railway line past allotments gardens, wealthy residential areas, the newly designed campus of Copenhagen Business School and a beautiful old campus before we get to the spectacular park, Superkilen, in the ethnically diverse and socially challenged Noerrebro. 2012 BIG/Bjarke Ingels, the artists Superflex and German Topotek 1, designed Superkilen which is made up of the ‘Red Square’, the ‘Black Market’ and the ‘Green Park’. Bike lanes traverse the park, which features playgrounds as well as spaces for basketball, football, cultural activities, picnics, socializing and relaxing. The park aims to support the diversity of local inhabitants by using objects from the home countries of those who live in the area and serve the locals as a public sitting room. The park has been rewarded several times among others by The American Institute of Architects stating the reason like this: This project is a joy! This is not only original, but stunning to behold. It is noteworthy for its aesthetic approach, which is straightforwardly artificial rather than pretending to be natural. …… It demonstrates the value of powerful visual and spatial moves while keeping connected to the realities of a contemporary multicultural context……The tour ends at Bispebjerg trainstation.
