Originally called “Matȟó Thípila” which means “Bear Lodge” by the Lakota; legend holds that the rock sprang up just in time to save children from a giant bear; the fluted nature of the rocks formed from the bear pawing at the rock.
Devils Tower was the first US National Monument established in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. There is a trail allowing for a short walk around the base of the tower if you like before enjoying a mountainside picnic lunch.
This tour also stops at the 120 year old town of Aladdin, the Vore Buffalo Jump and the infamous motorcycle town of Sturgis.
