Darren, writer and photographer, joined the Aussie backpacker pilgrimage to London back in 1987 and has been exploring the world ever since. In 1997, he went on an epic 2-month overland safari through Africa. He loved it so much that by the end of the trip he already had a job as a tour leader. Since then, besides guiding regular tours through Africa and the Middle East, Darren has investigated, built, and guided exploratory expeditions in Egypt, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia, as well as instructive and training tours in Jordan, Syria, Turkey and Morocco and throughout Africa. Darren is also the author of the Frommer’s Morocco guidebook and has helped the Footprint Namibia, Rough Guide Morocco, and Rough Guide Turkey guidebooks. His photos have been published in the Bradt Africa Overland, Bradt Nigeria and Rough Guide Morocco guidebooks, as well as several international books and publications like Africa Geographic, Time Out, the UNESCO’s annual The World Heritage wall calendar, Africa Overland by Lizzie Williams, and the Royal Geographical Society’s Geographical magazine, and . Through his long trips over the past 18 years, Darren has collected a profound knowledge of Africa’s many and varied identities and also harbors an anxious passion about the current events shaping the continent nowadays.
